Niutoushan, originally named Caoshan, is located at the northeastern tip of Green Island, Taitung. It is a gently sloped cape surrounded by the sea on three sides, with a large grassland at its summit. Its name, "Bull's Head Mountain," comes from its appearance, which from a distance resembles a reclining bull. The summit can be reached by walking approximately 10 to 15 minutes from the trailhead. Along the way and from the summit, visitors can enjoy expansive views of the Pacific Ocean and the dramatic cliff coastline. It is a popular spot on Green Island for watching sunrises, sunsets, and stargazing at night. There is little shade on the grassland, and the summer sun can be intense; it is recommended to visit in the early morning or late afternoon and to bring water and sun protection. Please exercise caution when near cliff sections. Special attention: According to an announcement from the East Coast National Scenic Area, the Niutoushan trail will undergo renovation from June 1 to October 31, 2026. Facilities will be temporarily closed during the construction period. Please be sure to check the latest opening status before your visit.
